Pop's Safari

Has anybody been to Pop's Safari? I've heard its a pretty cool place with great food, but when I drove by, there was no sign indicating when the place was open.

It's also a Cigar Store, I think.

see the Startlegram for a short note on Pop's difficulties with the new smoking ordinance. What to do.......... Cigar store/restaurant with no smoking.

I go there occasionally to buy cigars. We haven't eaten there in years. They've been through many different menus and chefs since they started serving food. It's not a bad place to have a smoke and drink beer/wine (no liquor). Staff is friendly, lots of regulars, several comfy seating areas and a patio. Walk-in humidor with smokes that are a little overpriced.

Last I heard, the food wasn't good anymore. They've gone through yet another chef and a co-worker said the food was beyond sad and they haven't been back since.

Pops its a pretty cool place to hang out. The food is good and the owner Perry (Pop) is super nice and cool.
I like going there because I can sit down with my friends and enjoy a nice glass of wine. Its a very unique place, you should go there and judge by yourself.

Don't know how the food used to be, but as of July 2008, it's good again. The Turkey Club sandwich is to die for and if you go on Monday or Tuesdays, the $5 hamburger is the best in town. I understand the steaks and 5 meat chili is also outstanding. I'm trying something new each week.

i think its Mac's salad, not Max's. Mac McIntosh owned The Carriage House and invented the salad. its also served at Micheals.
