Hicken Bereavement

This may be old news to many, but as I just came out of mourning, its time for me to report the sad news. At the end of May the Fried Hicken store that was to be my muse for numerous posts, passed on.

I have had a long time chicken lust that I have attempted to share with you, my sporadic readers. If you'll recall, the legend of the fried hicken began prior to my trip to Lisa's. On that fateful day, I met the scared asian man with no hicken. The hicken store became a place of mystery and disappointment to me and my friends (thats right, plural).

Although my hicken oriented lifestyle began here in the Fort, my chicken lust began in law school, as you may remember from the sad tale of a chicken place that never was.

The loss of the institution that was Fried Hicken is tremendous. Although a new building will come along, all many of us will see, is the giant hole in our heart that has been left by the demolition of the Hicken Hut.

People across the Fort are celebrating the new development and growth, but I think we need to work harder to preserve our history. Our hicken history.

Saturday morning there will be a small memorial at the site of the Fried Hicken Haven that Had no Hicken. We will pour out a sip of gravy for our lost hicken friends. Please feel free to join us.

Also-- have you been to George's Imported Foods on White Settlement?

Sorry about the Hicken Bereavement.

Have you tried Deer Creek BBQ at 820 and Camp Bowie W? We went for the first time last night and it is our new BBQ of choice.

Nice to see someone else agrees on Deer Creek. While the ribs aren't _quite_ as good as Mom's, they're also Baby-backs, which mean I won't get the "fatty ribs" - which I've gotten at Mom's (ick).

And the sides are awesome. I want to bribe them for a cup of their onion ring batter, since they don't serve CFS and that would be an awesome CFS batter.

I think this is a desperate cry for friends. Remember, dear FWHITW, you do have friends. You just don't call us anymore.

Yeah, but at the same time, you need to turn off the phone once you start getting drunk. Those drunk-dials at 3am get old, fast.

(And yes, I remember reading on Fortworthology about how the Fried Hicken's land had been sold. I looked outside for the building - and it had already been demolished. Not even a slab remained.)

Sorry I've missed out on this entire Deer Creek BBQ discussion. I think after the BBBBQ Review I was a bit worn out on BBQ. Then yesterday I had ribs. So I'm good for a bit. But I will get there before the summer is over.

Co-bbq reviewer are you up for that?

Cdees, I haven't been to either but I'll check them out soon.

Thanks for all the comments and for continuing to read.

Mourning is over for hicken. Its time to move on. Lisa's better be ready for a rebound.

There's a Lisa's on Cherry Lane in White Settlement. From 30 go north on Cherry Lane about 2 or 3 miles. It's on the right, across from the street from the High School, next to the car wash. :-) Happy munching!

A countenance, I saw that location for the first time the other day. I haven't had good hicken in awhile and I'm looking a bit thin so it may be time.

Thanks for reading
