Well, I'm sure a lot of people from Fort Worth have been to or seen J&J's but I just went by the other day and wanted to remind everybody how good it is.
Just as an oyster bar should be, it is small and smoke filled. Perfect setting for some good food.
I had the shrimp po-boy with the skin-on fries. The sandwich was great, the shrimp were crispy and it really hit the spot for that fried seafood fix that always comes about when it's a really hot day. I didn't try it, but they also have a po-boy with crawfish sausage and gumbo. That sounds really good so I'll definitely be going back pretty soon.
J&J"s Oyster Bar is on University just north of 7th Street. They also serve drinks early on sunday if you need some of that.

I have been following your advice for quite some time - travelling around after your reviews and deciding for myself whether we are on the same wave length. I have to admit for the most part we agree on what a hole in the wall should be, however you missed the boat on this one!! Please go back to J&J's and try the snapper!!! They also have OYSTERS - imagine that - and they're clean, taste salty like the ocean, and will usually consist of more than a dozen for the price..sorry, but I had to let you know that po' boys are fine - but this place has so much more to offer!
I had the crawfish the other day at J&J, and was pretty surprised by the quality. They were good size, cooked right and a decent amount of spice. Price was higher than what you'd expect on the coast, but no surprise since we're 4 hours from the coast. I'd go back for the crawfish alone, mainly because I don't know where else I'd get mudbugs in the Fort.
And BTW, if being located in an old Taco Bell with a restroom accessed from the outside doesn't count as a hole in the wall, i don't know what does.
Anonymous - I'm also confused by your statement about what a hole in the wall should be.
And I don't like oysters but I'll give the snapper a shot.

The best oysters in town. Period. After moving here about 5 months ago, I have explored just about all options minus some of the higher end stuff and the decision is easy. There really isn't even a close second. Sorry Flying Fish.
